About the Forum

Young Scotland in Mind, launched in April 2006, is led by Barnardo’s and funded by The National Programme for Improving Mental Health and Wellbeing.

The voluntary sector plays a significant role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. This visionary forum brings together voluntary sector organisations from across Scotland to communicate more effectively, build on collective strengths and influence the development of policy and practice.

The forum welcomes employees from ALL voluntary sector organisations and non-governmental organisations in Scotland to join and membership is free.

The forum is aspirational and visionary in its approach. Our aim is to actively contribute to the improved mental health and wellbeing of all children and young people in Scotland.

Our member organisations work together to achieve the following objectives:

  • Develop and implement an agenda that will contribute to the improved mental health and wellbeing of all children & young people in Scotland
  • Improve Communication and joint working within the voluntary sector and with external bodies
  • Build capacity within the voluntary sector
  • Increase sharing of good practice and learning
  • Influence the development of policy and practice with regard to the mental health and wellbeing of children & young people in Scotland

Our forum recognises the importance of meaningful involvement of children & young people in creating and making decisions about their own care and services, and embraces a participative approach.
